The Association of Brewers and Malters was founded in 1907 and brings together the major companies that produce and market beer in Italy that together cover more than 90% of national beer production and account for over 65% of beer consumed in Italy, giving work directly and with its induced to 137,000 people.ASSOBIRRA carries out institutional, promotional, and technological development functions for the brewing sector. The institutional tasks of the Association are mainly linked to the representation, both in Italy and abroad, of the member companies as regards legislative, legal and trade union matters. In all these areas ASSOBIRRA plays an important role of control and information with the aim of protecting the interests of the members and providing them with opinions, guidelines and assistance.The Association of Brewers and Malters is also the body responsible for monitoring the consumption of beer in Italy. For this reason every year promotes a qualitative-quantitative research on the consumption habits of Italians, as well as studies and research on the quality of beer and on production technology. ASSOBIRRA, moreover, to better understand and appreciate this drink, has long promoted the product with collective advertising campaigns aimed at responsible consumption education and the development of the product culture.ASSOBIRRA protects the interests of the sector and of the product in the awareness of the critical issues related to a non-responsible consumption of beer as an alcoholic beverage.ASSOBIRRA also joins Federalimentare, as well as Confindustria. It is part of BoE (The Brewers of Europe), Euromalt (Comité de Travail des Malteries) and EBC (European Brewery Convention).
